    With a minimum donation of $10, Janet May will send a flexi disk press of her single LESSONS TO LEARN, with cover artwork from photographer, Pete Voelker (NY Times, VICE), along with NY graffiti artist Al Diaz (SAMO collaborator with Jean Michel Basquiat), the vinyl includes an information card on the work of the WPA, and ways to advocate for them, including sharable assets so people can support this conversation, raise awareness, and help Women in the incarceration system.

    Any donation of $15 or more will also provide a set of headphones for a child living in WPA’s family shelter, Huntington House. The headphones will accompany the learning devices provided by the DOE, and help each child focus on learning and exploring music, and access to afterschool activities safely inside the shelter, following COVID CDC guidelines.

    The WPA works with women at all stages of incarceration system involvement: Before, During, and After

    · WPA provides alternatives to incarceration and help women avoid arrest or incarceration by making positive changes in their lives.
    · Inside prison and jail, the WPA are a source of support to women and a resource to them as they plan for release.
    · After incarceration, women come to the WPA for help to build the lives they want for themselves and their families in the community.

    LESSONS TO LEARN is a song Janet May has brought on a national sold out tour, and also performed as part of her monthly artist residency on Riker’s Island women’s jail for inmates.
    In addition she has performed at the Women’s Prison Associations shelter, Hopper Home, for women who have experienced. Incarceration.

    LESSONS TO LEARN is “a battle cry. A call to arms for women seeking a self-realization space.”

    JANEY MAY is an artist and activist who is committed to bringing music into jails, prisons, and shelters. She asserts that music acknowledges no boundaries, symbolized by performing with a vinyl player in a suitcase, and in her songs tackling topics ranging from subject matter ranging from the power of the feminine to the environment and mass incarceration.
